The North Slope Borough’s (NSB) remote Walakpa Gas Field is currently powered by three 125kW Waukesha generators that have reached end of life and need to be replaced. The NSB has decided to replace the three generators with three Capstone Turbines C65 65kW Microturbine Generators.
Walakpa is a remote natural gas consolidation site located approximately 25 miles southwest of Barrow (Utqiaġvik), AK. The site is surrounded by environmentally sensitive tundra. Walakpa can only be accessed by helicopter in the summertime and tracked vehicle or Rolligon in the winter. This makes site logistics extremely difficult.

- Process Engineering
- Total Installed Cost (TIC) Estimating
Taku Engineering is an alaskan firm specializing in designs for harsh and remote environments.
A conceptual study performed by a third-party engineering firm developed a project concept with an estimated project cost of $15.5 MM. During the design RFP phase, Taku Engineering developed an alternative project concept that drastically reduced the project cost and schedule. Moreover, the revised project concept reduced the logistical challenges and construction risks for the project and operations
